The environment for displays for medical applications is very rigorous and demanding. Characteristics of a superior display in surgery centers vary quite significantly from those used in an office. US Micro Products offers an array of displays and customizations specifically designed for a variety of uses by surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, and orthopedists, to name a few. Of particular importance today are archiving and retrieval systems for images and medical records (PACS).

From 2013 to 2017 surgical and clinical review display revenues are each expected to grow at a 9% annually, and diagnostic displays are set to increase by 5%. This is according to a report last year from NPD Display Search. The report also states that, “Technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, creating new medical imaging procedures that require sophisticated high resolution and larger display solutions,” Important growth areas are in diagnostics (half of all display users), surgery (a quarter of all users), and in radiology. Another report from the marketing firm  IHS says the world-wide market for medical displays will be $3.2 billion in revenue in 2017, up from $2.5 billion in 2012.

Our displays are designed to be useful and reliable in low/diffused-light conditions and in situations where contamination from touching, smears, spills and spatters is likely. The space around an operating table is at a premium and not everybody who needs it can have a close and unobstructed view. Our engineers have taken this into account and have designed displays to be viewable from wide angles and with higher resolution so fine details won’t be missed.

Portable Medical Device LCD

We have designed in displays for many portable medical devices. In each application, we take into consideration the power usage, backlighting requirements and information that needs to be displayed. By using low power backlights and displays, we are able to extend the battery life of the product. We also design in the smallest and lightest display and backlight for weight consideration. Many applications use a segment display utilizing custom icons and a numeric readout. Others require a graphic display in order to display a variety of information.
