Custom AMOLED Displays

An AMOLED (Active-Matrix OLED) is a thin-film-display technology that contains a layer of organic compounds that light up when hit with an electrical current. They are self-emissive, meaning they don't need a backlight. AMOLEDs consume less power than PMOLEDs, have faster refresh rates, and allow building larger displays with higher resolutions. AMOLEDs are also more complicated and expensive to fabricate.

When Should You Consider Creating a Custom Display?

1

Your new design requires application-specific changes that justify moving beyond a standard display

2

You already have a design and need a display that matches it

3

Many projects begin with a standard off-the-shelf product and then move to targeted changes once application requirements are clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of AMOLED?

High resolution, rich colors, true blacks, wide viewing angles, high contrast, fast response time, very thin profile, good sunlight readability, and low power consumption.

What are the disadvantages of AMOLED?

Higher cost compared to LCD and PMOLED, high cost for customizations, and currently limited to smaller sizes. AMOLEDs are more complicated and expensive to fabricate.

What sizes are available for custom AMOLED?

Custom AMOLED displays range from 0.39 inch to 6 inches diagonal, with resolutions up to 3840x2160 UHD. Shapes include round, rectangle, and square.

What is the difference between AMOLED and PMOLED?

AMOLEDs consume less power than PMOLEDs, have faster refresh rates, and allow building larger displays with higher resolutions. However, AMOLEDs are more complicated and expensive to fabricate. PMOLEDs are simpler and more cost-effective for small displays under 3 inches.

All custom displays follow our Engineered Display Solution Process (EDSP) — from technology selection through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production.
