Press Release

Descember 2013, Austin, TX—On Sunday, December 15, US Micro Products participated in a holiday party hosted by and benefitting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas organization at the Holiday Inn on Lady Bird Lake.

Volunteers from US Micro Products assisted BBBS volunteers, alongside corporate representatives from Bury, Inc., Jack in the Box Foundation, and Padgett Stratemann. USMP also matched employee toy donations, collecting over 30 toys which were distributed at the party. “This was a special event,” says US Micro Products CEO, Dave Alben. “We’re very happy to be involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and honored to be a part of what they do for children in our area.”

With the aid of individual donors and corporate sponsors, BBBS was able to serve over 600 children and volunteers in 2013. Food and entertainment were provided, and each child in attendance also received a gift. US Micro Products has supported the Big Brothers Big Sisters program through their Central Texas chapter since 2009. In addition to their holiday party, USMP also participates in the BBBS annual Ice Ball gala each August.

A Note from Big Brothers Big Sisters:

Big Brothers Big Sisters provided 90,000 hours of mentoring to 1,500 children in Central Texas last year. For more than 40 years, we have matched children, ages 6–16, with supportive adult mentors who build friendships and offer encouragement and support to each child. The organization depends on donations to help recruit volunteers and reach more children. Funding is used to conduct screening on volunteers to ensure child safety and to provide on-going support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships. Our agency is ranked in the top five percent nationally for program quality. Most impressively, last year more than 97 percent of our Little Brothers and Sisters stayed in school, improved their grades and avoided early parenting.
